Anatomy and Physiology This course introduces the sciences of anatomy and physiology and the basic structure and functions of the integumentary, musculoskeletal, respiratory and circulatory systems gastrointestinal, urinary, reproductive, endocrine, and nervous systems as well as the sensory organs. Related topics include fluid and electrolyte balance. Integration of systems and maintenance of homeostasis within the body will also be discussed.
This course requires a pass mark of 60%, however, learners enrolled in the Practical Nursing Program require a pass mark of 70%.

Growth and Development Upon completion learners will acquire an understanding of the process of growth and development across the life span. Learners will be able to discuss personality development and developmental tasks across the life span. The learner will be able to explain how socioeconomic and cultural factors as well as the role of the family influence human development. The learner will be able to identify the physical, cognitive and psychosocial development that occurs in healthy aging. The learner will acquire this learning through lecture, research, class presentation, and class discussion.

Health Information Literacy and Research Skills Communicating in a clear, precise, and correct manner requires producing the written, spoken, or visual material that best suits the situation. This course is designed to provide the learner with the opportunity to develop the information literacy and research skills required to prepare documents used in the learning environment and health care field. The learners will develop their skill in professional documentation, including letters, and research papers. Learners will be provided the opportunity to critically analyze articles in the development of a portfolio on a health related topic. Learners will also be given the opportunity to build client education/presentation skills.
