Program Highlights

In May 2009 we asked our students to tell us their top 10 program highlights. Here's a sample of what they said...

Applied Communication Arts - I loved the whole program. If I had to pick one highlight from it all, I would have to say that I loved the idea of meeting and getting to know new people. I can honestly say that I have never had so much fun in school until now. The friends I have, made the classes that much more fun to be in.

Architectural Engineering Technician - You have something to show for all the work you have done over a short period of two years (drawings in architecture, drafting, engineering, electrical and mechanical). There are also many project binders that show off all the calculations and organization in estimating, architecture and engineering. All of that work is very satisfying because when someone asks the question "what have you done all year?" you just open your arsenal of projects right in front of them and show them all the work you have accomplished.

Boulanger & Baking Art - I enjoyed building the gingerbread structures for charity events and working with professionals during on the job training.

Business Administration - I loved being at the school in general. There is a sense of community that you don't feel when you are in larger classes. I learned as much from my classmates as I did my teachers. You can't buy that kind of education. I went into this program not knowing anything about computers literally except how to check my e-mail and in second year it ended up being the core of my concentration.

Business Administration - Creative instructors who focus more on teaching than testing.

Culinary Arts - Making and executing our own menu, the friends we met, great teamwork, great chefs, being able to try stuff we would normally not be able to try at home, making hot dogs! Touch of Class, eating too much chocolate in pastry, My dog loving me when I came home every day because of the different smells.

Digital Animation - Seeing your own drawings come to life. Never gets old to me.

Electrical Engineering Technology - Our small class developed a great sense of unity. We were together every day and working on the same things every day. I went to university and it's not like that, university makes it easy to feel like a number.

Environmental Engineering Technology - Water Resources - The greatest highlight for the Water Resources program is the fact that our program allows the students to enjoy outdoor feild trips! Learning indoors and in labs of course has its educational purposes, but being in nature and getting hands on techniques has a fun AND practical value.

Heritage Carpentry - The struggle between old construction and existing structures and new construction. the debates found there in.

Human Services: Child & Youth Care Concentration - Being able to attend the National Child and Youth Care Conference and going on placement and working with several youth, and made it clear why I had chosen this field.

Information Technology - For me the greatest highlight of the year was when I wrote a computer program that did something useful and could actually be used as a tool. I can remember sitting there for hours inputting data and watching the results, fascinated that this was something I created. It was then that I made the decision to enter the programming concentration for next year and couldn't be more eager to get started in September.

Machining - My highlight had to be the feeling of success after a 1200 line, hand written CNC program runs through error free and you can breathe a sigh of relief that it didn't crash...;)...There were a couple of close calls but no major ones this year. I did get to see one crash on work experience. (Not to my fault)

Practical Nursing - The highlight of the PN program would have to be all the time in clinical. The class work is interesting, but once you're on the floor; that's where you really get the feel for the job and you get to realize you not just going to school, you're becoming a Practical nurse!

Radio & Television Arts - Walking into the classroom for the first time, not knowing anyone, and then at the end of it all, waking out of the classroom with memories and friends that will last a lifetime.

Remote Sensing - The remote sensing field camp - I got to take my own aerial photos!
